The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) reiterated that it remains clean and fully committed to its mandate of holding accountable those involved in anomalous flood control projects.
This comes after reports surfaced that individuals claiming to represent the ICI have approached some congressmen implicated in the flood control scandal. These individuals allegedly offered to remove the lawmakers’ names from the commission’s report in exchange for a minimum payment of ₱100 million.
According to ICI Chairman and retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Andres Reyes Jr., the commission does not know the people who are pretending to be its representatives in order to extort money from legislators.
He said that there are indeed people with the ability to extort, but stressed that such schemes are nothing new. Reyes added that he will make sure those falsely presenting themselves as ICI personnel will be held accountable under the law.
In the end, Reyes urged the public to report such schemes to the commission or to authorities so the perpetrators can be caught.
