The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) announced Friday that it will request the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the spread of false information linking the commission to a private organization.
In a statement, the ICI flagged a misleading online article that claimed it had enlisted the help of Task Force Kasanag International in its ongoing probe into questionable flood control projects.
“The Commission categorically denies this claim. The ICI has not authorized, deputized or engaged Task Force Kasanag International, or any group led by Mr. John Chong, in any capacity related to its investigation. This report is entirely untrue and should not be given credence,” the ICI said.
It added: “In view of the malicious disinformation, the ICI immediately requests the NBI to look into the matter and to file the appropriate criminal charges against those responsible for spreading false and misleading information that undermines the commission’s work.”
The commission also urged the public to rely only on official ICI announcements and trusted news outlets for accurate updates.
The ICI is chaired by retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Andres Reyes Jr., with former Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson and SGV & Co. executive Rossana Fajardo serving as members.
