The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) will not release the recordings of its previous hearings related to the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the government’s flood control projects, according to its chairperson, former Justice Andres Reyes Jr.
During a press conference on Friday, October 24, Reyes explained that the commission is still in the process of gathering evidence, which cannot yet be made public to protect the integrity of the investigation.
“We are gathering evidence. We cannot show our evidence. We will be telegraphed by these people if we show them,” Reyes said.
It may be recalled that on October 22, the ICI announced plans to livestream its hearings in the spirit of transparency and public accountability. However, Reyes clarified that the commission is still finalizing the proper procedures and guidelines before implementing such measures.
He assured that while transparency remains a priority, due process and the protection of evidence are equally essential to ensure the investigation’s credibility and fairness.
