IMEE CALLS FOR PROBE ON ICC-DUTERTE COORDINATION

Senator Imee Marcos has filed a resolution urging a Senate investigation into the alleged coordination between Philippine government agencies and the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte last year.

In Senate Resolution No. 340, Marcos questioned whether Philippine authorities cooperated with the ICC despite the country’s 2019 withdrawal from the Rome Statute.

Duterte was arrested on March 11, 2025, under an ICC warrant linked to crimes against humanity allegations.

Marcos argued that lawmakers must examine whether certain agencies maintained communication with ICC officials during the incident.

She cited a sworn affidavit from 18 alleged former soldiers claiming ICC investigators involved in a bribery scheme held meetings at Remulla’s residence when he was Justice Secretary.

Marcos emphasized that clarifying these events is essential to restore public trust in the justice system and safeguard national sovereignty.

“Dapat walang Pilipinong matatakot sa sarili niyang gobyerno at magtatago sa dayuhan sa sarili niyang bansa,” she said.
