Senator Imee Marcos claimed on Sunday, October 5, that Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla is set to be appointed as the next Ombudsman on Monday, October 6.
In a strongly worded statement, the presidential sister lamented what she described as the “darkening” of the nation’s moral fabric, saying politics and constitutional disregard have eroded one of the last pillars of accountability.
“Sa Lunes, nakatakdang hirangin si Boying Remulla bilang Ombudsman,” Marcos declared.
“Tunay ngang kulay itim pa rin ang kulay ng bayan; nagluluksa, nababalutan ng pangamba at kawalan ng pag-asa — sapagkat ang huling bantayog ng pananagutan ay pinilit wasakin ng pulitika at kalapastanganan sa Konstitusyon,” she added.
The senator also branded Remulla’s supposed appointment as “forced,” arguing that he is “unfit” for the position due to his pending cases.
“Isang sapilitang pagtatalaga ng taong hindi karapat-dapat, may mga nakabinbin na kaso at may bahid ng kawalang-hustisya,” Marcos said.
Her remarks come amid the circulation of an alleged copy of an Ombudsman decision dismissing the cases she had filed against Remulla and several other officials.
Based on the purported document, among those cleared were DOJ Secretary Boying Remulla, his brother and Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, former PNP chiefs Francisco Marbil and Nicolas Torre III, Special Envoy for Transnational Crime Markus Lacanilao, Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon, and Justice Undersecretary Nicholas Felix Ty.
Marcos filed the complaint before the Ombudsman in May 2025, accusing Remulla and the others of participating in the controversial arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte by the International Criminal Court (ICC) over alleged human rights violations linked to the administration’s war on drugs.
Remulla, who also reportedly applied for the Ombudsman post, has yet to issue a statement regarding the senator’s allegations.
Senator Imee Marcos, the sister of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., remains politically aligned with the Duterte family — particularly Vice President Sara Duterte — through the UniTeam Alliance formed during the 2022 national elections.
