Caloocan City 2nd District Representative Egay Erice revealed that he was approached by unnamed “leaders” from several groups urging him to endorse a possible impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., but said he refused to do so.
“Actually, may tumawag sa’kin, they are inviting me to endorse the impeachment against BBM. Pero tumanggi ako. Sabi ko sa both impeachment kay VP Sara at saka kay BBM, hindi ako mag-e-endorse. Kasi under the new rules provided by the Supreme Court, kailangan dumaan muna sa Committee on Justice,” Erice said.
He stressed that he wants to remain fair and open-minded, emphasizing the need to hear all arguments and charges before making any judgment.
“So para maging open mind ako, para maging fair ‘yung aking judgement, gusto kong pakinggan lahat ng mga arguments saka ‘yung charges on both the president and vice president,” he added.
According to Erice, one of the cited grounds is betrayal of public trust, although he declined to ask for details.
“Sabi nila one is betrayal of public trust, pero I did not ask kung ano ba ‘yun kasi hindi nga ako mag-e-endorse eh, ‘di ba?” he said, noting that some lawmakers are reportedly willing to sign the complaint.
When asked if the issue is linked to the national budget, Erice replied, “Palagay ko. ‘Yun naman ‘yun. ‘Yun lang naman.”
He said he has repeatedly urged Marcos to explain why key projects were removed or altered in recent budgets.
Erice warned that impeachment complaints against both the president and vice president would be unprecedented and could create a “huge problem,” especially since both ran on a platform of unity.
He also described the political environment as “volatile” ahead of the 2028 elections, citing fears over political backlash and bloc voting.
“Volatile lahat yan eh kasi alam mo mag-e-eleksyon sa 2028,” Erice said, adding that many lawmakers may wait to see which side gains the upper hand before taking a stand.
