Jeffrey Soriano on Wednesday took his oath before the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) as the newest party-list representative of the ACT-CIS Party-list.
Photos released by COMELEC showed Soriano with Chairperson George Erwin Garcia and other commissioners at the Palacio del Gobernador in Intramuros, Manila, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers.
ACT-CIS secured two congressional seats in the May 2025 elections after placing fifth among party-list groups with the most votes. Soriano replaces Edvic Yap, who resigned in February following corruption allegations linked to flood control projects.
On Tuesday, the Sandiganbayan issued a precautionary hold departure order against Yap and his brother, Eric Yap, preventing them from leaving the country amid a preliminary probe into complaints filed by Vince Dizon regarding the infrastructure scandal.
Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla alleged that the Yap brothers received tranches of money from government contractors Curlee and Sarah Discaya.
Eric Yap denied the accusations, saying:
“I would welcome the chance to face the witness who implicated me, but in the proper forum and under proceedings where my constitutional rights are respected.”
