LACSON DOWNPLAYS TALK OF SENATE LEADERSHIP THREATS

Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson on Monday dismissed renewed talk of supposed threats to the Senate leadership, describing them as nothing new and part of a long-standing political reality.

Lacson made the remark after social media posts circulated over the weekend suggesting a possible shakeup in the Senate leadership, allegedly fueled by “dissatisfaction” with Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.

Some posts claimed that members of the majority bloc were considering switching sides.

Responding to the speculation, Lacson said such narratives have existed for as long as the institution itself.

“An emerging threat to the Senate leadership? Let’s put it this way – like rebellion, the threat against the Senate presidency is a ‘continuing crime’ since time immemorial,” Lacson said in a post on his social media account.

The senator recalled that similar rumors had already surfaced in October last year, which he also brushed aside.

At the time, Lacson described the claims as an “old, rehashed psychological warfare tactic” meant to sow confusion and stir intrigue within the ranks of the Senate majority.

Despite the renewed online chatter, Lacson’s statement suggested that the current Senate leadership remains intact and unfazed by recurring speculation.
