Senate President Pro Tempore Ping Lacson said Friday that the government may be nearing the “endgame” of the massive flood control corruption scandal, after investigators sought plunder, graft, and bribery charges against former House Speaker Martin Romualdez and former Ako Bicol Representative Zaldy Co.
Lacson, who leads the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, emphasized that the momentum must continue if the case is to reach its “logical conclusion.”
“We’re getting there. We are beginning to see the fruits of our collective labor. But make no mistake—the road ahead is long, and we must sustain our efforts until we reach the logical conclusion: the prosecution, conviction, and jailing of those involved,” he said, stressing the need for airtight evidence.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon and ICI member and former DPWH chief Babes Singson turned over several boxes of evidence to the Office of the Ombudsman, reportedly linking Romualdez and Co to over ₱100 billion in contracts awarded to Sunwest, Inc. and Hi-Tone Construction and Development Corp. from 2016 to 2025.
Lacson cautioned that the probe remained far from finished, noting estimates that around 1,200 individuals tied to 80 suspected “ghost” projects may face charges. He vowed to contribute additional documents and evidence to reinforce the investigation.
“We can all help in making those involved answerable. I will augment such efforts with whatever documents or other pieces of evidence we have,” he said.
