Members of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) on Tuesday expressed full support for former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez, dismissing attempts to link him to the ongoing flood control controversy.
In a unified statement signed by senior party officials, Lakas-CMD emphasized that “there has been no evidence whatsoever presented in any sworn or validated proceeding that links Rep. Romualdez to any wrongdoing.”
The party added, “We stand firmly beside him—matatag, nagkakaisa, at nasa tama… Ito ang aming paninindigan—hindi gimik, hindi palabas, kundi tunay na paglilingkod sa bayan.”
The group stressed that justice cannot be based on political theatrics.
“Hindi showbiz ang imbestigasyon. Hindi ito entablado ng drama… Hindi puwedeng haka-haka ang gawing hustisya. Hindi puwedeng ingay ang gawing batayan ng katotohanan,” the statement read.
Lakas-CMD said Romualdez has remained cooperative and ready for any lawful inquiry, adding, “Wala kaming tinatakbuhan. Pero hindi rin kami tatanggap ng paninira.”
They clarified that Romualdez had no involvement in crafting or negotiating individual budget projects.
“He did not participate in the preparation, negotiation, or endorsement of individual projects, nor did he engage in dealings related to contractors or allocations,” the party said.
The statement condemned efforts to exploit unverified allegations for political gain, warning that such tactics erode public trust and create needless division.
The declaration was signed by top party officials from multiple regions, reaffirming collective backing for Romualdez.
