LAPID VOICES SUPPORT FOR ANTI-POLITICAL DYNASTY BILL

Senator Lito Lapid on Wednesday expressed strong support for the proposed anti-political dynasty law, saying he is willing to ask his own relatives in government to step aside — but only if other political families do the same.

“Nasa kanila naman ‘yun eh dahil matagal na rin naman kasi sila dyan. Bigyan naman natin ng pagkakataon ‘yung mga iba. Sa paraan na ito, mas titino ang Pilipinas,” Lapid said.

Lapid called the measure an opportunity to “open doors” for young and capable leaders, noting that many deserving youth fail to win elections due to lack of campaign funds and political machinery.

“Para mabigyan ng pagkakataon mga ibang kabataan na manungkulan kasi maraming gustong at magagaling na mga kabataan na hindi kayang manalo dahil kasi wala silang pera, wala silang leader,” he said.

Addressing speculation that his support is tied to his final Senate term, Lapid added, “May mga anak naman ako at may mga apo na pwede silang umabot. Kung ano sasabihin ng batas, doon na lang tayo.”

Two of his children, Mark and Maan, currently hold government posts, while his brother Rey previously served as Councilor and Vice Mayor of Porac, Pampanga.

Lapid acknowledged the measure would face strong opposition.

“Expect naman natin yan, maraming kokontra. Ewan ko kung papasa, pero sana pumasa,” he said.
