LEVISTE QUITS SOLAR BOARDS AMID ₱24-B PENALTY

Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Leviste has stepped down from the Boards of Directors of Terra Solar Philippines, Inc. and SP New Energy Corporation (SPNEC) following the ₱24-billion penalty imposed by the Department of Energy (DOE) on his company.

The DOE earlier sanctioned Solar Philippine Power Project Holding Inc. (SPPPHI) for failing to deliver on its commitment to build solar power plants capable of generating more than 11,000 megawatts of electricity.

According to the DOE, the company’s failure to meet its obligations has undermined the government’s plan to lower electricity costs by ₱2 to ₱3 per kilowatt-hour by 2030.

Leviste’s resignation comes as the energy sector faces heightened scrutiny over compliance with renewable energy commitments and the broader push to reduce power costs for Filipino consumers.
