Starting Friday, January 2, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) will strictly implement the ban on e-trikes along major roads in Metro Manila.
Prohibited routes include EDSA, C-5 Road, Roxas Boulevard, and the Quirino Avenue to Magallanes-South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) corridor, in accordance with existing MMDA regulations.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao said the primary reason is road safety.
“Ang pagsasabay ng mababagal at magagaan na sasakyan sa ganitong uri ng kalsada ay nagdudulot ng malinaw na panganib sa lahat ng gumagamit ng daan,” Lacanilao explained, noting that major highways are designed for fast-moving, large vehicles, making it dangerous for slow and light vehicles like e-trikes.
He emphasized that the measure is not intended to ban e-trikes entirely. The LTO is prepared to coordinate with local governments to designate safe and appropriate routes for these vehicles.
Violators will face fines and possible impoundment of their e-trikes under RA 4136 and Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01. LTO enforcers will be deployed at critical points to inform the public and ensure compliance.
The agency called on the public for cooperation and strict adherence to traffic rules to ensure the safety of all road users.
