M4GG MAYORS PRESS HOUSE FOR TRANSPARENT ACCESS TO 2023–2025 BUDGET RECORDS

The Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG) has urged House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III to grant them access to the National Expenditure Program (NEP) and the General Appropriations Act (GAA) from 2023 to 2025, along with records detailing line-item allocations.

In a letter sent on October 2, the group specifically asked for information on projects covering infrastructure, social services, and other programs, as well as the names of those who introduced or endorsed them.

The request, according to M4GG, is meant to ensure that national resources are being directed toward genuine local needs.

“We make this request in the spirit of transparency in the use of public funds and to ensure that allocations reflect the true needs of communities. Having access to these records will help local governments and civil society track implementation, strengthen accountability, and uphold public trust in our institutions,” the letter said.

The appeal was endorsed by several prominent city leaders, including Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, and Isabela City Mayor Sitti Hataman.

Describing itself as a coalition of nearly 200 mayors nationwide, M4GG said its goal is to fight corruption, promote integrity, and safeguard public resources so that they directly benefit citizens.
