MAGALONG ADMITS FRUSTRATION OVER “VERY DIFFERENT” LEVEL OF CORRUPTION

Baguio City Mayor Benjie Magalong apologized to his constituents, admitting that he had temporarily neglected his duties as mayor.

Magalong made the statement in a speech, just days after resigning as Special Adviser of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).

“I’ve never been busy in my entire life, ngayon lang. I would like to apologize to each and everyone of you if I cannot perform my task as your Mayor of the City of Baguio. It’s not an easy task believe me, it’s very challenging and it is very dangerous as well,” Magalong said.

The mayor also expressed disappointment over what he discovered during his stint as ICI Special Adviser, saying he had never encountered such brazen corruption in government.

“And sometimes in my private moments, I weep because I’ve never seen this kind of corruption, nakita ko yung mga extortion, mga pangingikil pero believe me, this is something very very different. I can only bow my head and express my frustration,” he added.

Magalong emphasized that with or without a position in the ICI, he will continue to fight corruption in government, particularly in relation to the anomalous flood control projects.
