MAJORITY BACK ANTI-DYNASTY, ANTI-CORRUPTION LAWS—SURVEY

A Pulse Asia survey found that 54% of Filipino adults support the immediate passage of a law banning political dynasties, citing the need to curb generational control of power through wealth and influence.

Conducted from December 12 to 15 with 1,200 respondents, the survey asked if they agreed with the statement: “Dapat kaagad ipasa ng Kongreso ang batas na magbabawal sa political dynasties.”

Support was highest in Metro Manila at 69%, followed by Luzon and the Visayas at 59% each. Mindanao showed mixed views, with 34% in favor, 27% opposed, and 38% undecided.

The same poll revealed that 52% of respondents also favor a law establishing “a fully empowered Independent Commission Against Infrastructure Corruption.”

Pulse Asia noted, “More than half of the adult population (52%) sees the urgency in having a law that would establish a fully empowered independent body to investigate corruption in infrastructure projects in the country.”

The findings come amid ongoing investigations into alleged kickbacks in flood control projects. The president’s Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) has filed cases against officials but has faced internal setbacks, including the resignation of two commissioners and a special adviser.

Earlier this month, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. listed the anti-political dynasty bill as a legislative priority.

His son, Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Sandro Marcos, filed House Bill 6771 the next day with House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III.

The proposed “Anti-Political Dynasty Act” aims to prevent “familial concentrations of political power” in public office.
