MAJORITY OF FILIPINOS STILL FAVOR DEMOCRACY — OCTA SURVEY

Around 80% of Filipinos continue to express support for democracy, according to the latest survey conducted by OCTA Research.

The same poll revealed that 18% of respondents said they no longer favor democracy, while 2% remained undecided.

Despite the generally positive sentiment, the survey also found that only four out of ten Filipinos — or 41% — are satisfied with how democracy is being practiced in the country. About 31% expressed dissatisfaction, while 26% were undecided.

“The study reveals a dual narrative among Filipinos: a strong commitment to democracy as a principle, but weak satisfaction with its outcomes,” OCTA Research stated on Saturday, October 25.

The research group further explained, “Based on OCTA’s various probes over the past four years, the findings suggest that public trust in democracy is resilient but conditional—dependent on tangible improvements in governance, accountability, and service delivery.”

Regionally, satisfaction with democracy was highest in Luzon at 55%, while the Visayas recorded the lowest at 25%. The Visayas also posted the highest dissatisfaction level at 44%, followed by Mindanao with 39%.

The nationwide survey was conducted from September 25 to 30, 2025, and included 1,200 respondents representing key areas across the Philippines.
