MAJORITY OF FILIPINOS WANT VP SARA DUTERTE TO FACE SENATE IMPEACHMENT TRIAL — OCTA SURVEY

A majority of Filipinos believe Vice President Sara Duterte should face an impeachment trial in the Senate to answer allegations of corruption against her, according to the latest survey conducted by OCTA Research.

The survey, conducted from July 12 to 17 among 1,200 respondents with a ±3.0% margin of error, found that 80% of Filipinos think Duterte should attend the trial and respond to the accusations.

Support for this stance was highest in the Visayas at 92%, followed by the National Capital Region (87%), Balance Luzon (77%), and Mindanao (69%).

Meanwhile, 14% said Duterte should not be required to appear before the Senate and has no obligation to address the allegations.

Opposition to the impeachment trial was strongest in Mindanao, the Duterte family’s political stronghold, with 30% expressing such a view, followed by Balance Luzon (10%), NCR (9%), and the Visayas (8%).

6% of respondents were undecided, while 1% refused to answer.

The survey results came just days after the Supreme Court declared the Articles of Impeachment filed by the House of Representatives against Duterte “unconstitutional.”
