The Makabayan bloc on Friday called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral, citing her central role in the allegedly anomalous flood control projects.
In a statement, the bloc said Cabral’s death must be viewed in the context of the ongoing investigation into flood control irregularities.
“The death of Cabral cannot be separated from the ongoing flood control probe as she is a key figure in the operations of the DPWH,” the Makabayan bloc said.
“The circumstances of her death must be investigated and all evidence that may be in her possession, including electronic and documentary evidence, should be preserved,” it added.
Reports said Cabral was found “unconscious and unresponsive” on Thursday night, around 20 to 30 meters below Kennon Road in Tuba, Benguet, several hours after she had asked her driver to drop her off along the highway.
