The Makabayan bloc announced that its February 25 rally marking the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution will call for accountability not only from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. but also from Vice President Sara Duterte and other officials accused of corruption.
“This mobilization is not just about Marcos Jr. We also demand accountability from all those complicit in corruption, including Vice President Sara Duterte and other high-ranking officials who have enriched themselves at the expense of the Filipino people,” the group said.
The bloc, composed of ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio, Gabriela Party-list Rep. Sarah Elago, and Kabataan Party-list Rep. Renee Co, said their impeachment complaints against Marcos and Duterte are based on documented evidence of betrayal of public trust.
They accused the Marcos administration of systemic corruption, pointing to questionable budget realignments, missing funds, and misuse of public resources.
“From allocables to unprogrammed appropriations to kickbacks, the Marcos Jr. administration has turned corruption into a system of governance,” the lawmakers declared, calling Marcos the “chief architect of this corrupt regime.”
The group also criticized the government’s designation of the area in front of the EDSA Shrine as a “no rally zone,” saying it suppresses constitutional rights.
“The Filipino people will not be silenced. We will march on EDSA to condemn corruption and the continuing decay of our political system,” they added.
The Makabayan bloc urged the public to join the mobilization and bring demands for justice amid rising prices, low wages, and perceived government neglect.
