Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro clarified that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has no time to entertain the “personal desires” of Senate Minority Floor Leader Alan Peter Cayetano, referring to the senator’s proposal for a snap election involving all elected officials.
In reports released Monday, October 6, Castro described Cayetano’s suggestion as “wishful thinking.”
“It is just his wishful thinking. We do not have time to talk about one’s personal desires,” said Castro.
She emphasized that the President remains focused on national responsibilities, particularly in addressing the needs of those affected by recent natural disasters.
“The President is busy working for the country and helping those affected by the earthquake and typhoon. He has no time for this kind of politicking,” Castro said, urging public officials to prioritize service over self-interest.
“Let us all focus on the needs of the people, not just on personal interests,” she added.
Meanwhile, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III also rejected Cayetano’s proposal, warning that it lacks constitutional and legal basis.
“We have no Constitutional nor legal framework for snap elections,” Sotto said in a statement.
“We will be flirting with uncertainty and chaos,” he added.
