Malacañang on Monday confirmed the designation of Atty. Angelito “Lito” Magno as the officer-in-charge (OIC) of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. accepted the resignation of NBI Director Jaime Santiago.
The announcement was made by Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro during a press briefing on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit in Malaysia.
A seasoned lawyer and career investigator, Magno rose through the NBI ranks — from serving as a line agent to becoming the Deputy Director for Investigative Services. He is widely recognized for his expertise in investigation, information and communications technology (ICT), and law enforcement leadership.
Meanwhile, Santiago confirmed that the President had accepted his irrevocable resignation, which he tendered in August, citing alleged detractors and individuals with “malicious interests.”
