MALACAÑANG DENIES DICT CHIEF AGUDA TO RESIGN

Malacañang on Friday denied reports that Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda is set to step down from his post.

Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said there was no confirmation from the Palace regarding Aguda’s supposed resignation.

“Not true,” Castro said when asked about the reported leadership change.

Aguda, appointed DICT chief in March 2025, currently heads the agency responsible for the government’s digital transformation programs, cybersecurity initiatives, and nationwide connectivity expansion.

The Palace statement came after reports surfaced that lawyer Edwin Lacierda was being considered to replace Aguda. Lacierda previously served as presidential spokesperson under the late former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

Before joining government, Aguda served as president and CEO of UnionDigital Bank and held senior leadership roles at Union Bank of the Philippines, including chief technology and operations officer and chief transformation officer.

He also served as digital infrastructure lead at the Private Security Advisory Council, assisting the Marcos administration in strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure.

Aguda’s extensive experience spans banking, telecommunications, and technology, with key positions at Globe Telecom, the Government Service Insurance System, and Digitel Telecommunications Philippines.
