Malacañang on Monday emphasized the importance of consistent action in asserting the Philippines’ rights and interests in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), following President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s firm stance.
Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said the President is clear that: “Wala pong anumang bahagi ng teritoryo natin o anumang interes ang isu-surrender sa anumang foreign power.”
She underscored that actions must match statements, cautioning: “May kasabihan nga tayo: Ang magtanim ng hangin, bagyo ang aanihin.”
Castro added that the President wants every Filipino to help convey the nation’s territorial rights and interests in the WPS.
Regarding claims of treason against officials supporting China’s assertions, Castro clarified: “Wala naman po tayo sa estado ng actual state of war,” noting that treason requires a formal state of war.
Malacañang also stressed that Senate debates on the WPS are independent legislative exercises.
“Kung anuman po ang napagdedebatihan sa Senado, ginagampanan lang nila ang kanilang tungkulin,” she said.
