Manila Water has signed a 15-year term loan facility worth up to ₱27 billion with BDO Unibank to finance its acquisition of a 92.97% interest in Wawa JVCo, the operator of Wawa Dam.
The company announced the acquisition in June last year, which includes the Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project capable of delivering up to 712 million liters per day (MLD) to Metro Manila and nearby areas.
Under a 30-year agreement with the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) and Manila Water, the project will supply 518 MLD through 2050.
The deal allows Manila Water to operate both the Tayabasan Weir and the Upper Wawa Dam, ensuring technical compatibility, system efficiency, and flexible resource allocation.
Currently, Metro Manila’s water supply relies mainly on Angat Dam, while the Kaliwa Dam is expected to be operational only by 2027.
