MARCOS ADMIN REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENTS

Executive Secretary Ralph Recto highlighted President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s commitment to empowering local governments as he represented him at the 2026 General Assembly of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) in Pasay City.

Recto delivered the President’s message to mayors and municipal officials gathered at the Marriott Hotel last Tuesday, where governance challenges and national programs affecting communities were discussed.

The LMP, led by National President and Echague, Isabela Mayor Faustino “Inno” Dy V, expressed appreciation for the administration’s Local Government Support Fund (LGSF), which provides direct financial assistance to municipalities for infrastructure, public services, and development projects.

Under the 2026 General Appropriations Act, the LGSF was increased by ₱34.87 billion, bringing the total allocation to ₱57.872 billion—the highest in its history.

The fund is a central component of the Marcos administration’s effort to boost local government capacity and improve grassroots service delivery, especially in smaller municipalities with limited resources.

The LMP also submitted policy recommendations on reforms to the Local Government Code, aiming to enhance autonomy and strengthen coordination between national and local governments.

Representing over 1,400 municipal governments nationwide, the league serves as a platform for local officials to engage with national agencies on policy and development programs.
