The President personally visited the province to assess the situation and check on residents affected by the powerful quake. During a situation briefing with local officials, he announced that the Office of the President has set aside funds to help the hardest-hit communities recover.
The financial aid will be distributed to Mati City, Manay, Banaybanay, Lupon, Tarragona, Banganga, Boston, Cateel, Caraga, San Isidro, and Governor Generoso.
Marcos said that local government units (LGUs) will have the discretion to determine how the funds will be used, depending on their community’s specific needs. He added that part of the allocation will also complement ongoing efforts by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
“As a former governor, I know that every area has different needs. Some need to fix their water supply, others need to open roads. It varies—that’s why we decided to give the funds directly to you. You know better than we do what your people truly need,” the President said.
The assistance aims to speed up rehabilitation and ensure that affected families receive immediate relief and support following the devastating earthquake.
