MARCOS MONITORING NANDO’S IMPACT, PALACE SAYS

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is closely monitoring developments in areas hit by Super Typhoon Nando, Malacañang said Tuesday.

Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro confirmed that Marcos has been receiving real-time updates from Defense Secretary Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro, who also heads the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

“The President is monitoring the weather situation and Secretary Teodoro is giving him constant updates,” Castro told Palace reporters.

Nando left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday morning as it tracked toward southern China.

Wind Signals Still Raised

Even after its exit, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 remains up in parts of Northern Luzon — specifically over the western section of Babuyan Islands, northwestern Cagayan, northern Apayao, and Ilocos Norte.

Signal No. 1 is still in place over Batanes, the rest of Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, northern Isabela, the rest of Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and northwestern Pangasinan. PAGASA said all signals may be lifted within the day.

Another Weather System Approaching

A tropical depression east of the country is expected to enter PAR as early as Tuesday afternoon or evening. Once inside, it will be locally named “Opong.”

As of 10 a.m., the system was located 1,075 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas.

Government Prepares Response

The NDRRMC earlier reported that preemptive evacuations were carried out in several provinces, with local governments placed on heightened alert to assist affected residents.

The Department of Budget and Management also assured the public that funds are ready to cover relief and recovery operations.
