President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has directed a review of the scope and coverage of the proposed anti-dynasty bill, Malacañang announced Thursday.
The move followed a meeting held at Malacañan Palace on Tuesday to discuss the measure, which Marcos has identified as part of his legislative priorities.
In a press briefing, Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro explained that the review seeks to refine how the bill could effectively curb political dynasties while ensuring enforceability.
“Ang mga napag-usapan ay tungkol sa mga levels of ban. ‘Yung mga degree or familial relationship, types of relationship considered, consanguinity, affinity,” Castro said.
She added that discussions also covered which government positions may fall under the prohibition—whether local, national, or both—and whether restrictions would apply simultaneously or successively.
“Ito po ‘yung pinag-usapan para mas maging maganda yung provisions na maaaring ilagay sa batas,” Castro said.
The proposed anti-dynasty bill aims to prevent the concentration of political power within families, a persistent issue in Philippine politics. Marcos has placed the measure among his priority legislative agenda.
Castro noted that the administration is weighing how to balance enforceability with political realities, including local government dynamics.
“No final recommendations have been submitted to Congress since the discussions are ongoing,” Castro said.
When asked if the President had specific recommendations, Castro clarified that the meeting was intended to refine proposals and ensure they align with the administration’s legislative framework.
