President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday expressed optimism about the country’s future, declaring that the Philippines is “in good hands” as he honored a new generation of young leaders recognized at the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) Awards 2025.
In a message delivered by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto during the ceremony at Malacañang, Marcos praised the awardees for embodying leadership rooted in service and impact rather than ambition.
“Through your work, and more importantly, the impact you have created, I am confident that the Philippines is in good hands,” the President said.
He emphasized that the TOYM Awards, established in 1959, continue to demonstrate that leadership is not defined by age or position.
“Since its establishment in 1959, the TOYM Awards has become a reminder that age is never a barrier to excellence,” he said.
Marcos highlighted the contributions of awardees addressing critical national issues, including indigenous people’s rights, environmental protection, climate resilience, and marine science.
Among them were lawyer Raymond Baguilat, recognized for his advocacy for indigenous communities; Rafael Dionisio, for his forest restoration work with Aeta groups in Zambales; and Dr. John Jamir Benzon Aruta, for his pioneering research linking climate change and mental health.
He also commended Dr. Deo Florence Onda for his historic dive to the Emden Deep, leadership in scientific expeditions in the West Philippine Sea, and studies on marine pollution.
“Each of you truly proves that leadership demands a deep sense of purpose,” the President said.
Marcos urged the honorees to continue leading with integrity and challenged the youth to measure success not by recognition but by service.
“Excellence becomes possible when we choose to use our talents in the service of others,” he said.
