MARCOS PUSHES PUBLIC-PRIVATE PUSH FOR RELIABLE POWER SUPPLY

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Saturday emphasized the need for sustained collaboration with the private sector to ensure “accessible, affordable, and reliable” electricity for Filipinos.

Marcos toured the exhibit of Manila Electric Company (Meralco) at the Meralco Theater in Pasig City, mounted in response to his directive for immediate solutions to the country’s energy challenges.

He commended the utility’s role in supporting the national energy agenda.

“This administration will continue to work hard and hand in hand with the private sector in crafting processes, policies that make electricity accessible, affordable, and reliable.”

The President cited initiatives designed to lower power costs while supporting agriculture, fisheries, education, and livelihoods.

He highlighted programs of the One Meralco Foundation, including solar electrification in underserved communities, e-trike charging stations, prepaid household systems, and advanced metering technologies.

Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) and its affiliate MTerra Solar also presented renewable energy projects, including developments that have achieved grid synchronization and energization in Luzon.

Marcos said the government aims to address the country’s power gap by 2028 through closer coordination with private firms, the Department of Energy, and the Energy Regulatory Commission.

“Progress in the energy sector – and in nation-building itself – rests on shared responsibility.”
