President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and former Vice President, now Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, once again appeared together in public on Monday at Malacañang, sparking renewed speculation about possible political shifts ahead of the 2028 national elections.
Robredo was among the local chief executives who attended the launch of the ₱57.87-billion Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) for 2026, bannered “Sa Bagong Pilipinas, Bawat Bayan Makikinabang.”
The initiative seeks to strengthen national assistance to local government units (LGUs) to drive grassroots development.
The joint appearance followed Marcos’ recent visit to Naga, where he stood beside his 2022 rival to inspect flood control projects.
The President even donned pink socks — widely seen as a nod to Robredo’s campaign color.
Malacañang clarified that the trip had been scheduled months earlier and was centered on disaster mitigation efforts in Bicol.
Despite the official explanation, the optics of their consecutive engagements have reignited political chatter, with Robredo’s name once again surfacing as a potential 2028 contender.
Observers have begun floating scenarios of possible realignments that could reshape the political landscape, including a potential face-off with Vice President Sara Duterte.
Also present at the Malacañang event was Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno, another presidential candidate in the 2022 race.
