MARCOS SHOWCASES NEW ERA FOR PHILIPPINE INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTER

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. led the official reopening of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City on Tuesday, September 30, unveiling its newest upgrades and technologies.

In his keynote address, Marcos emphasized the importance of the PICC’s legacy, recalling how his mother, former First Lady Imelda Marcos, originally pushed for its creation as Asia’s first international convention center.

“The challenge has always been to strike a balance, to honor history, while meeting the demands of the future,” Marcos said, underscoring the PICC’s transformation into a modern venue.

Among the latest features are state-of-the-art audio-visual systems, energy-efficient lighting, enhanced security measures, and high-speed Wi-Fi. The center also boasts a newly curated art collection featuring priceless works by Filipino masters, which Marcos described as a showcase of both national talent and heritage.

Since its inauguration in 1976, the PICC has hosted numerous historic global and local events. Marcos highlighted its role in positioning the Philippines as a cultural and economic player in the international arena, a vision that continues with this redevelopment.

He also credited First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos for personally supervising the renovations, ensuring that improvements were completed ahead of the reopening.
