MARCOS TELLS AFP: LOYALTY BELONGS TO CONSTITUTION, FILIPINO PEOPLE

After leading the oath-taking of newly promoted generals and flag officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in Malacañang on Wednesday, September 17, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. urged the military to remain steadfast in its loyalty to the Constitution and the Filipino people.

The call comes after some groups, particularly supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Sara Duterte, called on the AFP to withdraw its support from the sitting President.

“Today is not only a milestone, but a renewed pledge that your loyalty remains with the Constitution and the Filipino people. Always act with integrity, uphold the rule of law, defend our democracy,” Marcos Jr. said in his speech.

The reminder followed Marcos’ announcement of the creation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), which will be led by retired Supreme Court Justice Andres Reyes Jr. The commission will investigate alleged irregularities in public works, including the controversial flood control projects.

Marcos has authorized the ICI to subpoena records, compel testimony, and recommend prosecution.
