Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Dave Gomez and Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro confirmed that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos will not attend the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York City.
“The President has delegated his engagements at the UNGA to the Secretary of Foreign Affairs to allow him to focus on local issues,” Gomez said.
According to Gomez, Marcos has tasked Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Maria Teresa Lazaro to represent the Philippines at the General Assembly from September 22 to 30, 2025. The President reportedly made the decision to concentrate on pressing national concerns, particularly controversies surrounding anomalous flood control projects.
President Marcos first attended the UNGA in 2022.
