President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is scheduled to travel to Naga City on Saturday as part of the government’s large-scale flood mitigation campaign, Malacañang confirmed Thursday.
The visit forms part of the administration’s “Oplan Kontra Baha” initiative, which focuses on clearing waterways such as canals, esteros, and rivers to reduce flooding in vulnerable communities.
Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro clarified that the trip is centered on governance and disaster prevention, not politics.
“Wala po kasi talaga na pag-uusapan tungkol sa pangangampaniya o kung sino man ang magiging kandidato sa 2028,” Castro said.
“Napakaaga po para mamulitika. Andami pong dapat na ayusin sa bansa natin. Masyadong maaga ang pag-usapan kung sino tatakbo sa 2028,” she added.
Castro brushed aside suggestions that the visit carries political undertones, even as it comes shortly after Vice President Sara Duterte publicly declared her intention to run in the 2028 presidential elections.
She maintained that the President’s priority remains addressing pressing national concerns, including flood control and infrastructure improvements.
During the trip, Marcos is also expected to meet Naga City Mayor and former Vice President Leni Robredo, his stiffest rival in the 2016 vice-presidential and 2022 presidential races.
