MARCOS URGES MARINES TO SECURE COASTS, PREPARE FOR “UWAN”

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has called on the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) to be on full alert and ensure the safety of Filipinos and the country’s coastal areas ahead of the expected landfall of Typhoon Uwan.

Speaking during the 75th anniversary celebration of the PMC in Parañaque City, Marcos praised the Marines’ role in disaster response and urged them to remain ready as another powerful storm approaches.

“We saw this in your swift disaster response operations in Palawan, following the recent typhoon, Typhoon Tino,” he said.

“Thus, we will once again rely on your readiness, your discipline, and your heart for service, as we brace for the upcoming weather and the typhoons. Help us secure our coast. Protect our people. Rebuild our communities.”

The President reminded the troops that the Philippines is currently under a state of national calamity, allowing the government to mobilize all resources for relief and recovery following the devastation caused by Typhoon Tino in the Visayas.

Marcos also warned that Typhoon Uwan may be “potentially stronger” than Tino, underscoring the need for vigilance and preparedness.

“Courage is your heartbeat. When others hesitate, you step forward. You are among the first to fight. You are the last to rest,” he said.

“Despite the danger that shadows your mission, you gallantly step forward, fully aware of the risks that you face. You never falter.”

The President reaffirmed his commitment to modernizing the Marines, emphasizing investments in strategic base development, the self-reliant defense posture program, and enhanced maritime domain awareness.

“Bravery alone cannot meet the challenges of this modern room. A marine who answers a call must never face tomorrow with yesterday’s tools. And therefore, under my watch, we will continue to provide you the means to match the mandate that you bear,” Marcos declared.
