MARCOS URGES PEACEFUL PROTESTS AGAINST GOVERNMENT CORRUPTION

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. stated that he will not prevent any groups from holding protests on Sunday, September 21, to condemn the widespread corruption currently plaguing the government.

In a press briefing earlier today, Marcos emphasized that it is every Filipino’s right to express their frustration and anger over the ongoing plunder in government, as long as it is done in an orderly and peaceful manner.

“Look what we have found. You have to remember I brought this up and it is my interest that we find the solution to what has become a very egregious problem,” the President said.

He added that, had he not been in office, he might have joined the protesters himself.

“Do you blame them for going out into the streets? If I wasn’t President, I might be out in the streets with them. So you know, of course they are enraged. Of course they’re angry. I’m angry. We should all be angry, because what’s happening is not right,” he said.

The President again encouraged Filipinos to express their sentiments against corruption in government, emphasizing that everyone should unite in condemning it—just without resorting to violence.

“(Ipaalam) ninyo ang inyong sentimiyento. (Ipaalam) ninyo kung paano nila kayo sinaktan, kung paano nila kayo ninakawan. (Ipaalam) niyo sa kanila, sigawan niyo, lahat gawin niyo, mag-demonstrate. Just keep it peaceful,” Marcos stated.

Ultimately, he underscored that it is every Filipino’s right to demand transparency and accountability from government officials.
