President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. wants Congress to expedite the passage of the long-delayed anti-political dynasty bill but emphasized he will not back a “half-baked” version, Malacañang said on December 12.
Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro said Marcos raised the matter during the latest LEDAC meeting, stressing the need for careful study.
“Sinabi po ng Pangulo na ito ay araling mabuti… at kailangang maipasa sa pinakamabilis na panahon,” she said.
“Pag sinabing aralin, ibig sabihin hindi minadali, half-baked. Hindi ’yon ang nais ng Pangulo.”
The bill aims to enforce Article II, Section 26 of the 1987 Constitution, which has mandated the prohibition of political dynasties for nearly four decades.
Previous measures have stalled at committee levels, been watered down, or abandoned, often by lawmakers from entrenched political families.
Castro noted that Marcos’ support reflects growing public frustration over concentrated political power.
Lawmakers have urged him to certify the bill as urgent, which would compel the House and Senate to take a definitive stance on a measure long avoided, representing a politically significant test for a Congress dominated by influential clans.
