President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has acknowledged the growing public concern over the proliferation of online gambling in the Philippines, especially its adverse impact on Filipino families.
In his vlog posted over the weekend, Marcos recognized that while digitalization brings many benefits, it has also made gambling more accessible—resulting in serious consequences for households.
He emphasized that technology should be used as a force for good.
Marcos said he is reviewing calls for a total ban on online gambling, including proposals from Senator Migz Zubiri and Manila 6th District Representative Benny Abante.
Both lawmakers have filed bills seeking to prohibit online gambling due to its negative effects on finances and family relationships.
However, the President also noted that the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has recommended stricter regulations rather than a complete ban, citing potential economic impacts.
The administration is expected to study both sides carefully before reaching a final decision.
