Consumers of the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) will see higher electricity bills this month following the utility’s announcement of a new rate adjustment.
In an advisory issued on Friday, Meralco said it will implement a ₱0.53 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) increase for April. For households consuming around 200 kWh per month, this translates to an additional ₱106 in their electricity bills.
The power distributor attributed the upward adjustment to higher generation charges and the continued weakening of the Philippine peso against the U.S. dollar, which affects costs tied to imported fuel and other energy inputs.
Meralco said the adjustment reflects changes in overall power supply costs passed on to consumers for the billing period.
