The Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) has strongly refuted circulating social media posts on Monday, March 30, warning of an alleged three-month nationwide brownout.
In its fake news alert, the company stressed that such reports are “unauthorized and incorrect.”
“Reports of scheduled 3-month long brownouts are false,” said Meralco.
The power distributor urged customers to rely only on verified information from official government and MERALCO channels to avoid being misled by unverified posts circulating online.
The spread of misinformation comes amid rising oil prices driven by escalating conflict in the Middle East, which has heightened public concern over the country’s energy supply.
Meralco also reminded the public to stay informed through official advisories to ensure accurate and timely updates.
