METRO MANILA ON FULL ALERT AS SUPER TYPHOON UWAN NEARS

Metro Manila Council (MMC) president and San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora assured the public on Sunday that all 17 local government units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region (NCR) are on full alert as Super Typhoon Uwan continues to intensify.

In a statement, Zamora said LGUs have prepositioned food packs, medicines, and rescue equipment in key areas, while evacuation centers are being prepared for possible displacements caused by flooding or strong winds.

He added that preemptive evacuations would be implemented in flood-prone zones, while drainage clearing, tree-cutting, and round-the-clock pumping operations are ongoing to mitigate the impact of the storm.

“Let us all remain prepared and alert as Typhoon Uwan has already entered the Philippine area of responsibility. The safety and well-being of every Metro Manila resident remain our foremost concern,” Zamora said.

According to PAGASA, Uwan has strengthened into a super typhoon, bringing life-threatening winds and heavy rains over Catanduanes.

Metro Manila is currently under Signal No. 3, though the northern part of the region may be raised to Signal No. 4 if the storm moves closer to Aurora province.
