The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced Monday that it will implement a five-minute response policy for traffic accidents across major roads.
“Ila-launch namin ito — last week na ito ng training at dry-testing — ‘yung five minute-response namin sa lahat ng mga kalsada,” MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre III said in a televised interview.
He noted that accidents worsen congestion in already crowded streets.
“Alam natin ang mga kalsada as it is ay congested na. Mas lalong magiging congested ‘yan kapag may banggaan,” Torre added.
The move comes as the TomTom Traffic Index for 2025 ranked the Philippines as the most congested country in Asia, with a congestion level of 45%, ahead of India and Singapore at 37%.
Torre assured the public that the agency is committed to finding solutions to the daily traffic burden.
“Rest assured ang MMDA po ay nagtatrabaho para maghanap ng solusyon para sa ating kalbaryo na araw-araw ay dinaranas,” he said.
The new policy aims to reduce delays caused by road accidents and improve traffic flow in Metro Manila.
