The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has called on shopping mall operators across Luzon to provide free overnight parking in areas expected to be affected by Typhoon Uwan.
In a memorandum issued Friday, MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes directed malls to begin offering the public service starting Saturday evening and to maintain it for the duration of Typhoon Uwan’s passage, which is projected to reach super typhoon strength within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
“Ang inyong kooperasyon sa magkasanib na pagsisikap sa serbisyong pampubliko ay lubos na makatutulong sa pagprotekta sa mga buhay at ari-arian sa gitna ng malalang pangyayari sa panahon na ito,” said Artes.
The initiative aims to assist residents living in low-lying or flood-prone areas by providing temporary safe parking spaces for their vehicles.
Artes also urged the public to check the official social media pages of shopping malls for announcements on available safe parking areas.
