MOMO STEPS ASIDE FROM 2026 BUDGET BICAM

Surigao del Sur 1st District Representative Romeo Momo Sr. has withdrawn from the House of Representatives’ contingent to the Bicameral Conference Committee deliberating the proposed ₱6.793-trillion national budget for 2026, citing delicadeza following newly filed corruption complaints against him.

In a statement, Momo said he tendered a courtesy resignation from the bicameral panel after careful reflection, emphasizing the need to uphold institutional integrity and public trust.

“Guided by my firm belief and respect for our democratic institutions, and my enduring commitment to public service, I have formally tendered my courtesy resignation as a member of the Bicameral Conference Committee deliberating on the General Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2026,” he said.

He explained that the move was prompted by the filing of a case before the Office of the Ombudsman involving him and members of his family.

“In light of the recent filing of a case before the Office of the Ombudsman involving allegations against me and certain members of my family, I deemed it proper to step aside from the Bicameral Conference Committee out of delicadeza and in the interest of institutional integrity,” Momo added.

The bicameral conference committee met on Saturday, December 13, to reconcile the House and Senate versions of the 2026 General Appropriations Act.

Momo’s withdrawal came a day after plunder and graft complaints were filed against him over the alleged ₱1.4 billion worth of government contracts awarded to a construction firm reportedly owned by his family.

The complaints were filed by a group of Catholic priests and lawyers from Tandag, Surigao del Sur.

Momo has denied the accusations, describing them as false and politically motivated, and stressed that his resignation from the bicameral panel was not an admission of guilt.

“I remain fully confident that the truth will prevail through the proper legal processes. I welcome due process and trust in the rule of law, for a clear conscience fears no investigation,” he said.
