MORE ARREST WARRANTS COMING IN FLOOD CONTROL PROBE — OMBUDSMAN

More arrest warrants are expected to be issued in the next two weeks against individuals allegedly involved in anomalous flood control projects, Ombudsman Boying Remulla said on Saturday, December 6.

Remulla said in an interview that although no timeline was imposed on investigators, they are moving carefully to ensure strict adherence to due process.

Marami pa ring warrant this December, marami yan. The next two weeks, maraming mga kaso ang ifa-file. The next 10 days, maraming kaso na ifa-file,” Remulla said.

He added that he is allowing the special prosecutor to handle the work without micromanagement.

“Hindi ko lang mina-micromanage ang mga yan because I have other things to worry about sa trabaho ko… ‘yung special prosecutor namin is doing his job,” he said.

Remulla echoed the position of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) and President Bongbong Marcos that cases against major personalities must be airtight to ensure they stand in court.

“Basta ito proseso ito, there are no definite deadline is given, but I can assure you, the process is being followed so we respect people’s rights. Ang pinakaproblema diyan, nagmamadali ka, mava-violate ka ng rights, baka mapurnada pa. So we are very careful about the process,” he said.

This week, the ICI formally recommended filing charges against former Senator Bong Revilla and other officials implicated in the flood control scandal, citing possible offenses ranging from bribery to plunder, along with administrative liabilities.

The ICI also referred to the Ombudsman the names of several present and former senators, including Chiz Escudero, Mark Villar, Grace Poe, and current Makati City Mayor Nancy Binay.
