The Nacionalista Party (NP) on Monday called on former Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Zaldy Co to return to the Philippines and formally present his allegations in the widening flood control corruption scandal.
Led by former Senate President Manny Villar, the party emphasized that Co must face proper institutions and place his claims under oath.
“Public institutions cannot act on allegations aired from abroad without accountability or verification,” the NP said.
The party stressed that if Co stands by his accusations, he must be willing to undergo the same scrutiny expected of any public official.
“Our position is consistent and simple: If Mr. Co truly believes in what he is saying, then he must submit himself to the same standards of scrutiny that every public servant is expected to uphold,” it added.
NP noted that the House of Representatives has already shown full support for the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in flood control projects, saying the next move is Co’s to make.
“The responsible course of action now rests with Mr. Co… Until he comes home and testifies before the appropriate bodies, his statements cannot and should not distract from the reforms and good-governance efforts being pursued by Congress,” the party said.
The NP also reaffirmed its backing for national leaders and key institutions.
“The Nacionalista Party stands firmly with the President, with Speaker (Bojie) Dy, and with all institutions committed to transparency, due process, and accountability,” it added.
