Actress Nadine Lustre on Tuesday reiterated her support for former Vice President and Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, calling her the “best candidate” for the presidency as talks about the 2028 elections begin to surface.
Lustre said her support for Robredo remains unchanged since the latter’s first presidential run, while emphasizing that she respects whatever decision Robredo makes about seeking the post again.
“For me, she is really the best candidate for the presidency. I supported her way, way back when she ran the first time. So definitely I’ll support her,” Lustre said.
She added that leadership does not always come from ambition alone.
“Sometimes the best presidents are those who don’t want to run. So we’ll see. Let’s cross the bridge na lang when we get there because right now, it’s really hard to say.”
Lustre made the statement while joining Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Representative Leila de Lima in filing three proposed measures focused on plant-based health programs, environmental protection, and animal welfare.
De Lima, for her part, voiced hope that Robredo would reconsider a 2028 presidential bid, describing her as the opposition’s strongest contender.
“We need somebody like VP Leni Robredo who is not only clean but very capable at yung kanyang advocacy talaga, clean and good governance. Pag merong clean and good governance mababawasan significantly… corruption,” she said, noting that the Marcos-Duterte alliance played a role in Robredo’s 2022 loss.
