The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) announced the recovery of crucial documents from the Bonifacio Global City property of former Ako Bicol Representative Zaldy Co, saying the materials may support ongoing investigations into alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
NBI spokesperson Palmer Mallari called the operation “successful,” confirming that the seized documents contained several names now undergoing verification.
“Well, ang masasabi ko lang po, ang mga dokumentong ito definitely have bearing in our investigation,” he said.
Investigators will “cross-reference and counter-check” the materials with existing testimonies and intelligence to determine their relevance.
Agents retrieved the documents from three vaults inside Co’s condominium unit. Mallari said they also found a “minimal” amount of cash, roughly ₱10,000.
All seized items were recorded in an inventory, with copies provided to Co’s legal team. The search warrant and full inventory will be submitted to the court for disposition.
The raid followed a separate Thursday night operation by the NBI-Organized and Transnational Criminal Division on Co’s adjoining 600-square-meter units.
Co has been declared a “fugitive from justice” by the Sandiganbayan, which earlier canceled his passport over malversation and graft charges involving a ₱289 million substandard dike project in Oriental Mindoro.
The NBI has also requested a red notice from Interpol to facilitate his arrest.
